Sir,

I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of 8th instant and its enclosure and in reply beg to state that:

The limit of the total Note issue of the Bank is $450,000.

The Bank does not issue notes at any of its Branches other than Hongkong. The above limit is fixed under Hongkong Ordinance No. 2 of 1895, copy of which was enclosed with our letter of July 18th, addressed to the Right Hon: The Earl of Elgin.

As stated above the Notes of the Bank are issued only in Hongkong and are redeemable at the Head Office of the Bank there.
